It has been estimated that 1 in 8 people in the USA suffer from some degree of sleeping disorder, commonly known as insomnia. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. It can be caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, caffeine, depression or bipolar disorder and sometimes occurs for no apparent reason. An overactive mind or physical pain may also be causes. In many cases, insomnia may be caused by another disease or psychological problem.
Many insomniacs rely on drugs to sleep. However, these medication can either be addictive or may lose effectiveness over time. Some may cause the memory and cognitive disturbances.
